Dr Joachim Reichenberger is Counsel and a member of the Global Mobility and Sports Law group in Luther’s Munich office.
He has many years’ experience advising on cross-border designs and advises his clients on all matters pertaining to tax and occupational social security law. One of his special focus areas is dealing with matters at the interface between (wage) tax law and employment and (occupational) social security law, where he can draw on ten years’ experience working as a civil servant at Deutsche Rentenversicherung, an organisation comprising all German pension funds.
Another of his focus areas is assisting with restructurings, in particular by providing tax and social security law advice in relation to socially acceptable staff reductions. In this context, he advises companies on the optimisation and subsequent implementation of social compensation plans.
In addition, Joachim Reichenberger also advises high-net-worth individuals and ultra-high-net-worth individuals, including many well-known professional athletes, on tax, social security and employment law issues, in particular when moving to or leaving Germany.
Joachim Reichenberger is a lecturer on diverse tax and social security law topics at Dr. Endriss Steuerfachschule and at HAUFE Akademie.
After graduating from the University of Applied Sciences (FHVR) in Wasserburg (Germany), having been awarded a degree in public administration (Diplom-Verwaltungswirt (FH)), Dr Joachim Reichenberger studied law in Bayreuth (Germany) whilst working as a civil servant for the German Statutory Pension Insurance Scheme. In Bayreuth, he additionally graduated in business law (Wirtschaftsjurist (Univ. Bayreuth)). After completing his legal training, which included training periods in two large international law firms, Joachim Reichenberger worked for six years as a layer in Bonn (Germany) in a leading law firm that specialised in tax law. Joachim Reichenberger joined Luther in 2019. His doctoral thesis on a tax law topic dealt with the taxation of professional athletes under national and international tax law. Joachim Reichenberger has additionally earned an LL.M. degree, again in the area of tax. In early 2020, he successfully completed an Executive MBA programme in Washington, D.C. (USA). In June 2020, he was admitted to practise as a tax advisor. Joachim Reichenberger speaks German and English. He is a lecturer at Dr. Endriss Steuerfachschule and at HAUFE Akademie and has authored numerous publications on tax law topics and on topics at the interface between tax law and employment and social security law. In 2021, he has been recognised in Best Lawyers and mentioned in The Legal 500.
