Employment Law: Time allocation for special leaves

The draft bill n°7060 related to special leaves was voted by the Chamber of
Deputies on 14 December 2017.

The provisions aim to modernize the labor code and implement a better work-life balance.
Therefore as from 1st January 2018, the duration of the below listed special leaves will be modified:

Paternity leave2 days10 days
Maternity leave8 weeks after the date of delivery
Extended by 4 weeks for premature delivery, multiple births or breastfeeding
12 weeks (no further distinction is made in case of breastfeeding)
Leave for family reasons

2 daysDuration depends on the child’s age:
  • 12 days for a child between 0 and 4 years;
  • 18 days for a child between 4 and 13 years; and
  • 5 days for a child between 13 and 18 years.
Wedding leave6 days3 days
PACS (civil solidarity pact) leave 6 days1 day
Child’s wedding leave   2 days1 day
Child’s PACS leave2 days0 day
Leave for relocation2 days2 days (every 3 years)
