Carla Witte advises companies in the construction and real estate sectors – both clients and contractors – on the structuring, preparation and implementation of complex construction projects.
While legal advice on construction law is an important part of her work, it is not the only one. The success of construction projects depends crucially on their early initiation. Public and private institutional clients need to make key decisions well before awarding planning and construction contracts for projects that often span several years.
A particular focus of Carla Witte’s practice is the development of needs-based and practical procurement and contractual structures, as well as the early identification of legal and project-related risks. Her aim is to anticipate and prevent disputes at an early stage and, where disputes nevertheless arise, to take appropriate measures to ensure that construction projects are brought to a successful conclusion from both a legal and commercial perspective.
She places particular emphasis on taking a holistic view of projects, both in terms of involving all relevant stakeholders and with regard to the entire lifecycle of buildings.
Where disputes nevertheless arise, Carla Witte assists clients in resolving them pragmatically – where possible through out-of-court negotiations or alternative dispute resolution methods, but, where necessary, also through court proceedings. She regards litigation initiated by the client as a last resort.
Through her many years of experience working for construction companies and law firms, she combines legal expertise with a strong understanding of technical interdependencies, project organisation and commercial project objectives.
A particular focus of her work lies at the intersection of law, the construction industry and modern project delivery methods. She has particular expertise in Lean Construction, Legal Design, BIM, as well as collaborative contracting and project delivery models.
Long before Integrated Project Delivery became widely known and established in Germany, Carla Witte had already developed a strong focus on this and other collaborative project delivery methods. For many years, she has been a committed member of, among others, the German Lean Construction Institute (GLCI).
She also served for several years as a lecturer in collaborative project delivery at the University of Wuppertal. She regularly writes on these topics on her LinkedIn profile and in various publications.
Most recently, she contributed two chapters to the “Handbook on the Refurbishment and Modernisation of Existing Properties” (ed. Dr Oliver Koos, Beck Verlag): “Legal Integration of Methods such as BIM and Lean with Legal Design” and, together with insurance expert Lars-Christian Kairies, “Insurance”.
Carla Witte regularly presents construction law topics in training sessions, lectures and workshops. She is also actively involved as a moderator and participant in panels and other dialogue formats.
Carla Witte studied law in Osnabrück and completed her legal traineeship in 2016 in the district of the Higher Regional Court of Oldenburg. She subsequently worked as in-house counsel in the construction industry before moving into private practice in 2021. Since 2025, she has worked across Luther’s Düsseldorf and Essen offices. From 2022 to 2025, Carla Witte also served as a lecturer in collaborative project delivery at the University of Wuppertal.
