Background

Euro 121m in turnover, including international offices // 6 percent increase in turnover over last year

German law firm Luther has announced its turnover figures for fiscal 2014/15 that ended on 30 June 2015:

  • In fiscal 2014/15, Luther reached a turnover worth Euro 107.6m in Germany. This equals a 6% increase in turnover over the past year (Euro 101.5m).
  • Luther's international business has developed positively, as well: Together with its international offices, Luther has generated a total turnover of Euro 121m, which also means a 6% increase over the past year (Euro 114m).
  • The number of accredited professionals in Germany has slightly increased from 294 lawyers and tax advisors last year to now 304 lawyers and tax advisors. The number of equity partners has risen from 67 to 71. Abroad, we had 70 lawyers and accredited national professionals provide legal advice in fiscal 2014/15, i.e. just as many as last year.

Dr. Markus Sengpiel, Co-Managing Partner:

“We were able to increase our turnover and revenue as we did in previous years. We are very happy about this repeated success. The positive result is owed to our employees. Their workload was clearly increased, which is reflected by an increased profitability of our law firm although the number of employees remained almost the same. Moreover, we have revised our cost structure and become more efficient.”

Elisabeth Lepique, Co-Managing Partner:

“The positive result is based on a consistent focus on quality and an integrated consulting approach. Thanks to our extensive range of consulting services we have managed to expand our already existing business contacts with major companies, in particular family businesses and public authorities, and to use said contacts for subsequent assignments in fiscal 2014/15. Moreover, in the past fiscal year we have come much closer to our goal of becoming the advisors of big German corporations. The trend in the law firm market towards a stronger segmentation of consulting services and an introduction of advisor panels plays into our strategic positioning plans. Thanks to our dedicated areas of expertise, major corporations are increasingly turning to us for advice in complex legal cases.” For example, Luther is advising E.ON on matters of energy law, ThyssenKrupp on matters of IT law and Amazon on matters of labour and distribution law.

Triple JUVE Awards 2014 award

Luther's strategy to intensify the internal dovetailing of the various legal areas of expertise while, at the same time, expanding the special expertise in individual areas is also reflected by us now being better perceived in the law firm industry:

At the 2014 JUVE Awards, Luther was recognised three times – namely as the “Law Firm of the Year for Energy Law,” “Law Firm of the Year for Private Building Law,” and “Law Firm of the Year for Regulated Industries.” The JUVE Awards are presented every year in autumn: In 2015, Luther is nominated as the “Law Firm of the Year for Labour Law.”

Kanzleimonitor: Corporate counsels vote Luther
first place among law firms for Asia

Luther's positive international business can be attributed, inter alia, to the extremely successful work of our three Asian offices in Shanghai, Singapore and Yangon (Myanmar). Here, Luther has been working as consultant to German companies for years. This is also evidenced by the results of the “Kanzleimonitor 2014/15” study presented by Bundesverband der Unternehmensjuristen [BUJ (German federal association of company lawyers)] in December 2014: Here, the law firm recommended most often by German corporate counsels for doing business in Asia is Luther.
