Clinic group expands presence locally and nationally: Johanniter successful with Luther on clinic acquisition in Westphalia

Hamm/Gronau, 18 January 2024 – The Health Care Team of Luther Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft has once again advised on a major transaction in the healthcare sector: Evangelisches Krankenhaus Hamm, Evangelisches Lukas-Krankenhaus Gronau and St. Marien-Hospital Hamm have been subsidiaries of Johanniter GmbH since the beginning of the year.

Background

Since 2 January 2024, the previously Catholic-run St. Marien-Hospital Hamm, the Evangelisches Krankenhaus Hamm and the Evangelisches Lukas-Krankenhaus Gronau are now part of Johanniter GmbH. This brings the number of hospitals operated by Johanniter throughout Germany to 21 and increases the number of employees to more than 20,000. 18 hospitals, specialist and rehabilitation clinics as well as medical care centres, more than 90 retirement homes and three hospices previously belonged to Johanniter GmbH, which is part of the Protestant Order of St John.

The takeover of these hospitals by Johanniter GmbH is intended to ensure stable and sustainable healthcare provision in the region.

The industry-experienced Luther Health Care Group, led by transaction specialists Oliver Kairies, Daniel Schubmann and Hendrik Bernd Sehy, organised the transaction, negotiated the respective transaction agreements with the various seller parties and provided comprehensive advice to Johanniter.
